How Often Should I Clean This?

It is easy to forget just how much cleaning goes into cleaning a house. Reading over our Thorough Deep Cleaning Service lists can give an excellent idea of just what thoroughly cleaning a house entails, but the reality is that while a deep clean will make your house sparkle, some of those things sparkle for a lot longer than others, and others need a bit more attention more consistently.

So we at Clean Queen decided to make a list of the things that should be cleaned Weekly, Biweekly, and Monthly as a guide for your home, so if you choose a cleaning service, you can more accurately determine what your needs are. No matter if you are one of our clients across the Greater Denver Area, looking for a new housecleaning service, or just trying to get a leg up on the cleaning in your home, this list is good no matter what your reason.

Organizing Your Housecleaning

Weekly:

  • Bathroom. The bathrooms commonly experience the most weekly buildup through consistent use, with the toilet and tub being the two areas most susceptible to developing some pretty unkind germs through normal use. Scrubbing these out once a week is a great way to keep not only your bathroom smelling nice but keeping yourself healthy.
  • Bedsheets. Aside from perhaps clothes, the bedsheets gather the most skin flakes, sweat, body oils, smells, and other truly delightful things our bodies produce. Washing these once a week is a good way to keep you and your room fresh and sanitary.
  • The Kitchen. The Kitchen Sink will endure handwashing, cooking, food scraps, soap scum, cooking grease, and more. The stove will accumulate splatter and crumbs, the counters have all manner of usage and the microwave could absolutely use a wipe down after the splattering it took. Giving your kitchen a cleaning each week keeps it clean, organized, and healthy for the food you prepare there.
  • High Volume Dusting: For your dust-intensive areas, such as rooms with lots of vents and windows, dusting regularly will not only make for a cleaner room, but make for a healthier space with cleaner air.
  • Floors (High Traffic): Floors with a lot of usage will commonly find themselves worn down and dirty with bits of the outside world carried in. Entryways, stairs, bedrooms, kitchen floors, bathrooms, and rugs are common places which can quickly become a bit overwhelming if not commonly vacuumed or mopped.

Two Weeks:

  • Dusting. This could be considered a weekly task depending on if you accumulate significant quantities of regular dust, but for many homes a good dusting every two weeks will keep the buildup manageable. For every two weeks, focus on areas which see less buildup but are easier to miss, such as baseboards and top of doors.
  • Kitchen Hood: An easy to miss spot, the kitchen hood accumulates dust and grease, making for a sticky and often difficult to clean spot if left unattended. Cleaning it over once every two weeks keeps it manageable.
  • Lightswitches and Doorknobs: Another spot which could be bumped up to weekly if need be, these spots are often not considered when one begins cleaning. Yet they are touched daily and without some small amounts of care can become discolored and filthy. The refrigerator door handle is an excellent option for cleaning handles here. A light scrubbing should keep these spots clean and healthy.

Monthly:

  • Low traffic floors: For all the other places in the house you spend less time on, be it a guest room which sits unused most of the time, a carpeted storage room, or any room which is not a commonly used area, attending to these floors once a month keeps the workload manageable and your home tidy.
  • Unused rooms: Guest rooms, unused offices, sunrooms which have been closed up for a while during stormy months and more, rooms which are large in part unused should get a gentle dusting so they are ready for you when you need them.

Ultimately organizing your home’s cleaning is up to you, but here at Clean Queen we know that a clean home is a happy home.
